it's the album - it's just a really, really good compilation and this song is part of it. the song on it's own is strangely melodic, but in combination with the other songs on the two-disc album becomes something meaningfully melancholic.

can someone explain why they like this so much/why it is kronos' most scrobbled?? i want to get it. but it sounds like everyone praises it because they don't want to seem as if they don't get it

I don't get it, I liked this at first listen. If anything, it doesn't fit with the rest of the compilation, but neither knotty pine, and at least this is not a musical mess.

How could people trash this song and praise that hot mess that Dirty projectors screamed over in the opening track? This is a great abstract piece of music.

This song is incredible, so unique and old sounding... not sure it really fits the rest of the compilation, but it's definitely a fantastic song. Stunning.

I was skipping this song, too, until I heard the original by Blind Willie Johnson. Now, I understand this version. Let's just say that if you are feeling vulnerable or it's dark outside, don't listen to it unless you want to *feel* it. It's fairly creepy yet mesmerizing. I just can't get Johnson's humming out of my head.
