Me And Bobby McGee (4:14)

From SONGS OF KRISTOFFERSON and 87 other releases

Well it took him ten years to write the song, and i believe he wrote it on the back of a hotel slip. His agent, or manager phoned him at the hotel and said, ” i got a song title for you . I’ll give you the title , but you have to write the song.” So i’m not a hundred percent sure, but that is originally how it came about. Ten years later, Mr Kristofferson wrote the song, as at last he was inspired to write something he had done often…Write songs of beauty. Kris may tell the true story of his account, but that’s all i know. It was worth the wait. Godbless the gentleman. Tony Cash

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train
And I's feelin' near as faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down, just before it rained
It rode us all the way to New Orleans

"Me and Bobby McGee" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster, originally performed by Roger Miller. Others performed the song later, including Kristofferson himself,[1] and Janis Joplin who topped the U.S. singles chart with the song in 1971 after her death, making the song the second posthumous number-one single in U.S. chart history after "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding.

Without Kris there would be no Me and Bobby McGee.............. Every cover is good... and there are so many of them..... But KK is the original and the creator...
