Kris Allen (Kristopher Neil Allen) (born June 21, 1985) is the winner of the popular television series ‘American Idol’, from Conway, Arkansas. Kris’ passion for music began when he taught himself to play the guitar at age 13, and he has since learned the piano, viola and ukulele. His talents and soulful voice have given him the opportunity to perform at numerous music venues as well as the chance to share his gifts and faith with many of the underprivileged and oppressed people of the world. His travels to Spain, Morocco, Thailand, Burma, Mozambique and South Africa have influenced his music and inspired him to share it with others. Kris debuted his first full-length CD, “Brand New Shoes”, in September 2007. The album spotlights his musical capabilities in songwriting, guitar, piano and vocals. Kris is known for his laid-back and unassuming personality, yet his music is full of depth, energy and soul.

Some of his influences include Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Matchbox 20, and John Legend.

On 20 May 2009, Kris Allen was crowned the champion of American Idol 2009.

Actually he came short of a top 10 debut. http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart_watch/42330/week-ending-nov-22-2009-mayer-zooms-as-boyle-looms/ He debuted at number 11

Sales don't equal quality, and Kris' album may be the lowest selling debut album for an AI winner so far but I predict the same will happen with next year's winner. You have to look at the facts that record sales were again down this year and the US is still in a recession. If you look at the facts I think the highest debuting album this year has only been at 500K when even last year albums were still debuting with 600 and 700K I don't care if Kris sells millions or not his album is still great and as long as I like it I could care less if it sells 10 copies. It's still a top 10 debut so congrats to him.

my god. ._. realise what? I don't even watched American Idol or ever saw them in there shows there, alright? & know what? I like Kris Allen's songs. So he will have fans without American Idol too, & thats what it's about. Not every singer got a thousand fans directly after he made the first album. alright? after a time he'll have more fans & more peeps which buy his album. & these days most peeps dont buy albums or anything cause they download the songs (illegal or legal) on the internet. when kelly won (in 2004), not THAT many peeps downloaded the songs per internet (and no - i dont think shes not good. shes a great singer). so go away with your so-called-facts, okay? stop discussing, it doesnt make sense or changes everything. it's completly useless. & as I said: jlegend said is opinion. you said yours. and thats enough in my opinion. all the other posts are nonrelevant.

Finally, FACTS. Yes, his album isn't the best, but i believe that if Kris goes acoustic on some of the songs he'll be doing really well! There's no fixed track for album sales now, just look at the re-releases, repackaged and multiple editions of different albums.

The Kris Allen album is a bit of a disappointed. I think he is going to be one of the least successful winners in its history. http://bit.ly/6tdPdn

Jordin Sparks previously held the record with 119,100 copies on her first week, but she went on to sell more than a million copies for her debut album. The worst-selling Idol winner’s debut album for now is Taylor Hicks with 704,000 total. WOW! Kris Allen did not sell 100,000 on his first week, even with pre-orders. NOT MY OPINION, JUST AN ARTICLE! The Billboard 200 charts come out on Thursday. Nielsen SoundScan should have numbers tomorrow. However, Hits Daily Double is already predicting that Kris Allen will be the lowest-selling American Idol winner in the first week moving 84,846 copies. Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood and the soundtrack of Twilight Saga New Moon outsold him.

Could we please stop insulting Adam ~and~ Kris on this shoutbox. Some of us happen to be fans of both and it's frustrating. People are allowed their own opinions and comparing the two artists is always going to add badly.

Quoting Kris, 'everything that Adam does has a lot of hype and controversy'. It's just the way he is, so that could be why adam's fans don't mind people slinging mud at their idol that often. Kris on the other hand, is so laid back and chill that it seems just freaking rude to come on this page and start repeating all the negative feedback and call the album a failure when it hasn't been in the market for more than a week!! I don't care if you post a one-off "Kris' album sucks' but to be so persistent in saying that it is a failure etc, it's much more than expressing your taste of music and opinion. Adam isn't gonna have a number one album too so shut it!

Also Kris' song has been out for about a month now and it's still higher than For Your Entertainment on iTunes.

Adam has both a deluxe and regular edition. Number 6 and 8 on iTunes in the US. I think Susan Boyle will dominate this weeks Billboard chart though. I really like Before We Come Undone

also UCoB--it's not his opinion that I have a problem with. I am not trying to change his musical tastes and I don't believe he is trying to change ours as well. I think that if someone is going to brag about being "right" about music (which is subjective and in the end it is impossible to be right), they could at least do a damn good job of it. I am merely pointing out that he isn't living up to his claims and I'm disappointed.
