I think what I like most about this band is the feeling of controlled chaos that exists within their songs, if that makes sense. A number of other metal bands have managed to create something close to that feeling in their music, but I think Krallice may very well have been the most successful at it, or at least at balancing the "controlled" and "chaos" parts (for example, Deathspell Omega also does this, but they're much more towards the "chaos" end, while a number of technical death metal bands are more towards the "controlled" end). At the bare minimum, I haven't come across anyone else who does it this effectively.
I'm not surprised that something new is coming soon given how quickly they used to work. Hyperion was from 2013, after all, and Ygg huur wasn’t particularly long compared to their other albums. They’re pretty much due for a new album. My wallet is not going to be pleased, though.
yeah. i talked with mick after the show, they have 4 songs on it done right now. they definitely played at least 3 of them. sounds like a mix between Ygg huur & Hyperion, with a little bit of Diotima/Dimensional Bleedthrough thrown in for good measure. pretty decently long tracks too. one of them sounded longer than the version of it i heard in march, like they added a few more riffs to it.
Reminds me of Gamma Knife by Kayo Dot at some points, which is definitely a good thing. Even though I've always enjoyed their longer stuff immensely, it's refreshing to hear such a tight and quality release like Ygg Huur.
after listening to nothing but the new album the last few days i think the only thing i'm really disappointed about is that i think Engram is kind of a weak closer, feels like a very abrupt ending compared to Dust and Light or Monolith of Possession. the songs are really intricately written; once you can actually follow along with the frantic pace of the songwriting, it's probably some of the best they've done in a while. length seems to be the only real problem; a lot of the songs have a lot of really great segments that i feel like don't really get the opportunity to breathe as much as they should. i think overall it's still my favorite release they've done so far though
initial vibes from the new album, if i had to compare: "Dimensional Bleedthrough put through the blender". it's a lot more technical for sure but it seems to fit with each album in their discography having its own unique twist to it.
also sounding like Behold the Arctopus lol, but as someone who's hungry for more BtA this definitely fits the bill
