Mean Son of a Gun (2:37)

Cover of Kitty, Daisy & Lewis

From Kitty, Daisy & Lewis and 1 other release

This is a remake of an old Johnny Horton song. The lyrics are simple country lyrics, with the singer giving examples of how mean he or she is, and bragging about it. The instrumentation is sparsely played and true to rockabilly, with (I’m guessing) a chinky lead guitar, rhythm guitar (a dobro?), a string bass, simple drums, and a harmonica (not heard much in rockabilly, but used well here).

I first heard this tune in the movie “”Last Chance Harry”. Kitty, Daisy & Lewis are buskers singing on the street where they are seen by Dustin Hoffman and Emma Samson. It was good to hear British kids playing so well and so true to the rockabilly form. Based on what I have seen so far, Kitty, Davis & Lewis do well in this genre. I don’t understand the words very well, but I love this tune!
