Biography

There are at least seven artists/groups called ‘Kismet’:

1) Kismet is an indie rock quintet originated from Utrecht, Netherlands. Influenced by the likes of Cursive, Depeche Mode, Blonde Redhead and The Get Up Kids, the group was founded in the winter of 2002. After releasing two E.P.s the bands line-up solidified in 2006 and started focussing on a debut full-length album. Kismets sound is characterized by their dynamic compositions, combining complicated songstructures with a seamless melody and catchy vocals.

2) The duo, Kismet, started out performing as members of Nur. As directions changed, fate led Asad Khan and Shoaib Khan to form Kismet. They have performed at many venues including OSU, Rutgers University, Elmhurst’s Frick Center & Irion Hall, Rosemont Convention Center, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, and many more. They claim their biggest influences are Josh Groban, Yusuf Islam, and John Lennon. With a strong lyrical message in their songs and a combination of different musical cultures, Kismet is ambitious in delivering a positive and unifying message across the world.

3) The Macedonian group, Kismet, was active from 1993-2000 and released 4 cds, two albums on Tone Casualties, the label owned by Gabor Csupo of Klasky Csupo (the company that produces cartoons like Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys). They were known for their unique blend of beats, atmospheres, and Macedonian folk flourishes.

4) There has also been a grunge band from the UK from 1999-2003, a thrash band from the USA, and a metal band from Italy from 2002-present.

    So, listening to Kismet has been on my to-do 'to-listen-to' list since the start of 2012. This evening, I decided to give Pulchritude a listen. Of all their albums that popped up on Spotify, I feel that perhaps this may have been a poor choice to serve as my introductory album. I'm not sure that I'm digging their sound—that is to say, this record specifically just doesn't suit my style. I don't want to dismiss the band entirely just because one of their records failed to resonate with me; in other words, to give them a fair chance. I'd be more than appreciative of any and all recommendations. However, if you happen to have a moment to spare, skimming through my library in order to familiarize yourself with the type of tunes that appeal to me may simplify narrowing it down to some specific song recommendations. Again, this would be much appreciated.

    The Kismet that *I* am listening to was a free jazz band from Chapel Hill, NC around the late 90's. Their album is called "Curious Yellow." [2]

    Really annoying and misleading thing - so many bands & projects sharing one name (until now I've counted about 5)...and some of them got mixed togehter at last.fm :-o But I agree that ONE AND ONLY Kismet is кисмет ! :)
