Helsinki, Finland (1987 – 1994)

Kingston Wall was a psychedelic/progressive rock group from Helsinki, Finland. They were formed in 1987. Influenced by such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, the group combined eastern themes, mysticism and vivid psychedelia with their unique, hard-edged acid-rock.

Group members were Petri “Pete” Walli (guitar, vocals), Jukka Jylli (bass) and Sami Kuoppamäki (drums, percussion).

During their existence, Kingston Wall released only three self-financed albums on their own label, Trinity. The albums were Kingston Wall (also known as I) in 1992, II in 1993 and Tri-Logy in 1994.

The group was disbanded by Petri Walli in December 1994. Walli went travelling to India and Norway. The definite end for Kingston Wall came on June 28th 1995 when Walli jumped to his death from a church tower in Helsinki.

After the band’s demise, the three Kingston Wall albums have been re-issued as double CD’s with bonus tracks by Zen Garden record label (Finland). In 2000, a remix album titled Freakout Remixes was released, which featured trance/techno remixes of Kingston Wall songs by Finnish electronica artists, and in autumn 2005 a 3-disc set titled Real Live Thing was released, which featured live bootlegs from various live shows, available now for the first time ever.

Wow, it's awesome. I love how the sky is coloured and the way the city looks.

Looks very good! All the essential themes are present. I love the crack in the wall/ground leading into Mirrorland(?).

Guys, if you're interested, check out my HD Kingston Wall wallpaper. It's probably the first ever KW wallpaper made for widescreen (1920x1080) so enjoy!

I'm definitely buying the box set as soon as I can afford it. Between the Trees is amazing, but the bonus CD also has the non-live versions of Can't Get Thru and Skies Are Open which were previously only heard on Live Thing CD's.

Yeah. I absolutely recommend listening to all their music. Multiple times if possible! Try to get your hands on the bonus CDs, too. KW is great live and some unreleased tracks like "Between the Trees" are awesome.

Like zarqu said, depends on whatkind of music you prefer, but I believe it's possible for anyone to like all of their stuff. The discography is only 3 albums, so there's no need to limit yourself. For what it's worth, I'll try to describe each of the albums in some extent. The first half of "I" is very Led Zep / Hendrix acid psychedelic rock, while the latter half "Mushrooms" is like a progressive trip. The second album is more acoustic and even features violins on the song Istwan, but still has some solid rock tunes. Tri-Logy on the other hand is completely different and revolves almost entirely around the mythological themes of Ior Bock's "Bock Saga". It features synths and has a more eccentric overall sound. Tri-Logy is kind of a tragic record in a way if you're familiar with the backstory and what happened after. Some people have even speculated the last songs of Tri-Logy as Petri Walli's suicide notes. It's all great music though and I recommend it all.

I like II and III a little bit more than I. Depends on what you prefer, I guess. I has "Nepal" and the awesome "Mushrooms" set I like. II is very solid all around. I love III because it's one awesome trip culminating in Stüldt Håjt. "The Real Thing" is a great finisher. All in all, I love all three albums. @niQboy Thanks for the article! It was an interesting read.
