While I was busy eating turkey and working like a maniac on Thanksgiving weekend, eMusic added Tzadik Records' music to their website.
And I gotta say, wow. Some of the stuff I've heard there is very very good. Some of it is great. Some of it is awesome. Brilliant, even.
Apart from the usual Zorn I kinda knew already (Naked City, Hemophiliac, Painkiller, among others)the real joy of the whole thing has been discovering some truly inspiring stuff.
Take Masada, for example. Apart from the whole "redifining jewish music for modern times" thing, it is a great piece of work which I'm anxious to delve into, because it feels exciting, vibrant, refreshing. And it reminds me of why I fell in love with artists that are more left-of-center than others, like Frank Zappa, Mike Patton, King Crimson and others. Because it's expansive, and to me, ultimately rewarding.
