Born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Mesquite, Kimberly M’Carver has been singing and dancing since childhood. She was a voice major (classical) in Dallas and at UT Austin, while dancing professionally in fashion shows. She also received a bachelors in Anthropology, and further studies to become a registered veterinary technician.

In Houston, M’Carver fronted cover bands and started writing songs in 1987, performing at songwriter open mic nights. Early musical influences included Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks. During this time, a homemade tape of her songs was sent to Rounder Records (Cambridge, Mass.). It was well-received and followed by Rounder visiting her for a live performance in Houston and offering her a recording contract on the spot.

M’Carver’s two Rounder releases, Breathe the Moonlight (1990) and Inherited Road (1994), drew nominations (Best Independent Record, CA) and charted on the new Americana chart. Further nominations included the Houston Press Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year & Best Acoustic/Folk numerous times for over a decade, as well as”critic’s pick” for Best Female Vocalist. During this time a compilation of her first two Rounder cds was released as Kimberly M’Carver by Mesa Music International in Taiwan.

In 2001, M’Carver co-produced her third album of original songs, Cross the Danger Line, with Scott Neubert.
