This album is yet another example of why you shouldn't pay any attention to music reviews whatsoever. Pretentious, self-absorbed know-it-alls, every single one of them with the similar "correct" taste in music... Pff... No wonder they can't appreciate real works of art. I actually avoided "Brighter than a thousand suns" for quite som time because I expected it to be mediocre at best, but it turned out to be the exact opposite. Killing Joke never ceases to amaze me.

Their best album. A wonderful combination of synth pop, post-punk, and Discipline-era King Crimson, all wrapped together by absolutely soaring vocals and sharp lyrics.

heard both mixes, and the old one is by far the best. Not to mention that they totally butchered 'Victory' (it's only 4 min length on the new one).

This is my favorite from them in some ways. Lyrically, it's such a romantic album. Not in the sense of romantic love, but grand concepts.

I don't like theses "original" Chris Kimsey mixes at all. The cranked up bass and drums totally kills the flow. It also sounds compressed - the songs here don't need that. I'm really glad I kept my old copy. Anyways, still one of my favorite albums of all time ;)

Seems to be a standout among all other KJ stuff, but I really love this "clean" sound.

Slit_Your_Guts - I agree that Southern Sky has it's qualities, I mean it's not bad, it's still KJ, and it's rare to hear them doing a rock ballad. But I think the other one, Love of the Masses is way much better. Btw I actually like the original mix better (the one with all the reverb and stuff). Perhaps because I've grown up listening to it ;)

I think the remaster adds too much bass. The mixes sound more like the KJ we all know (less of that keyboard in the mix), but the bass is too much. Dynamics could be better as well, a bit on the loudness war side of things. Ah well, sometimes you can't win.
