Stavanger, Norway (1997 – 2003)

There is more than one artist with this name:

1) Florida hardcore with heavy tinges of southern rock and sludge; lyrical preoccupations are straight edge and skating. Their newest full length The Game (Eulogy, Ghetto Josh) dropped on August 18, 2009. It’s their third, preceded by The 80s Are Dead (Knife or Death) and Outta Control (Eulogy). They’ve also released a demo and a handful of splits, two with New Jersey’s The Mongoloids (one of which consists of each band covering 2 of the other’s tracks) and one with Richmond’s Down to Nothing.

With Outta Control, KLU began to more explicitly implement elements of southern rock, metal, and sludge. The Game takes that a step further, Alternative Press comparing it to the work of sludge luminaries Eyehategod. Vocals have undergone noteworthy changes from one release to the next: The Game and their most recent splits with The Mongoloids exhibiting Lars’ grittiest, harshest delivery to date.

2) Kids Like Us was a hardcore band from the West-Norwegian seaport town of Stavanger. Formed in 1997, it rose from the ashes of Frame, a metal-style HxC band from Stavanger which had included three of the four members from Kids Like Us. All the forming band members where between 17 to 24 and all straight edge and vegetarian or vegan at the time.

After playing some shows, Kids Like Us recorded a self released demo, entitled “Myself. Friends. Family”, in March 1998.
