Kevin Max is one of the three members of dc Talk and began his solo career in 2001 with the album “Stereotype Be”. The record was marketed towards christian music listeners by default, but was not a Christian album, and flopped as a result of the CCM industry “blacklisting” both the album and the artist.

However, after a few years the album became a cult success with Christians and non-Christians alike. Max has since followed up “Stereotype Be” with two EPs (“Between the Fence and the Universe” and “Holy Night”) and 2 LPs, named “The Imposter”, and “The Blood” in December 2007. In December 2008, he released “Crashing Gates”.

As dark_illumine said KMax is often associated with those artists because he's a Christian or was a Christian artist at one point. "Christian" is sort of a genre in itself, if you'd said that to me about 3/4 years ago I would have strongly contested but I've come to realize that it's very true. Kevin along with a few other notables defy that genre showing that you can still be Christian but don't have to sound like most of what is Christian out there. As I have, abandon that music without still abandoning your faith.

That's because they both are in the "Christian Music" grouping... Try clicking the top similar artists for just about any Christian musician and you will end up in a loop within 10 clicks. Sad really, shows how little reach many Christian artists have outside of their own culture (with the few exceptions of, say, Kevin Max and Jars of Clay).

I love, love, LOVE Stereotype Be and The Imposter...but I'm unimpressed with The Blood. Sounds too much like what he was venturing away from (dc Talk pop sound). Not that dc Talk weren't OK for their purpose, but honestly, I think his aforementioned solo albums blow away anything they ever did.
