Courting the Muse (5:33)
From Courting the Muse
Featuring a recitatif melody (i.e. hovers between speech and singing) and radically slowed-down dance beats and keyboard samples, this melancholy ballad personifies the muse as a perpetual object of unrequited love, hinting that real-life figures also sometimes come to stand in temporarily as conduits to an artistic relationship with one’s own source of vague and tantalizing expressive energy. Uh…it’s really sad and mellow and sounds great when you’re stoned.
