  • my first 10,000 tracks on last.fm

    27 Feb 2006, 07:50 by Foxman

So, finally I made it! Took me exactly 90 days to play my first 10 thousand tracks on last.fm. Might be time to give a short summary:

First of all my Top3 artists:
    1.) Christina Stürmer (1389)
    2.) Kelly Clarkson (490)
    3.) The Ark (479)

Though I listened that much to Christina Stürmer (one out of seven tracks), I wouldn't consider my music taste as being one-sided. One argument might be that I've listened even to my 300th "top" artist four times. Sure, you can mostly find the usual pop acts in my personal charts, but there's also space for some off-mainstream artists (at least I hope so ;-), a bit of and even Ludwig van Beethoven could manage entering my Top100.
I'm very curious about how my top artist and tracks will develop in the future. (But I Promise not to write such a senseless journal before arriving the magical 100,000 tracks border!)
Presently I'm still waiting for some of my all-time favourite tracks to enter my Top50 ... …
  • Week in Review: Feb. 19-26

    27 Feb 2006, 00:45 by Passioneer

I managed to squeeze in 645 plays this week - that might be a new record for me. Some highlights of the week...

Part two of my re-obsession with The Dresden Dolls. All 123 plays this week happened within about a two-day timespan. This week I listened to a lot of songs I hadn't in awhile and discovered that I really like them a lot; some that come to mind are "Colorblind", "Boston", and "Have to Drive" - all amazing songs which I didn't really get into until this week.

Stemming from my country music post last week, I've been listening to a lot of alt-country stuff this week. I am really in love with Neko Case's Blacklisted and I can't wait to hear her new one next month. "Runnin' Out of Fools" was my number one played track for the week. Her vocals on there give me chills - they are sooo good. The line "is that why you got in touch with me?/I guess you must be runnin' out of fools" sounds better with every listen. …

  • Recent Concerts

    23 Feb 2006, 21:54 by siobhanmcg

I'm seriously bored out of my mind, so thought i'd post a random blurb about my concert experiences at the weekend.

First up was Kanye West on Friday night. Gotta say, it was a really good concert, but just not quite as good as his previous gig when he visited in 2004. Maybe it was because the venue was bigger, or because I had some dudes elbow in my face all night obstructing my view, but I enjoyed it, just not as much as Saturday night! :)

    Song highlights include:

    Gold Digger
    Jesus Walks
    Heard 'Em Say
    Roses

Saturday night was Miss Kelly Clarkson! Words cannot describe how amazing that was, she hit every note perfect, and had the audience stunned on her acappella songs! Absolutely stunning! I'm a huge huge Britney fan (and I'm not ashamed to admit it) but once you see Kelly in concert its hard to defend Britney and her lip-synching. Kelly deserves to be the number 1 female artist, by far!

    Song highlights include:

    Addicted
    Beautiful Disaster
    Because of You
    Gone

Below is my cd collection. Some of these albums I listen to often, some get played a couple times a year, and a few albums only get played every couple of years. This list serves as a musical diary of sorts; a look at some of the cds I've been collecting since the age of thirteen. This list isn't fully comprehensive of all the bands/artists I like. Luckily we have Last.fm to show what we're currently listening to.

  • 100 Albums: My Favorites

    21 Feb 2006, 00:20 by fridgey

So I really wanted to make this list - but once I started I realized how ridiculously difficult it was. Cross-comparing pop/hip-hop/metal/rock/indie/etc is a damn tough task, especially when you really do listen to all of them fairly heavily. I completely cut out classical/jazz/pure electronica/etc styles, since that would've rendered the whole thing completely impossible, and went from there. This is purely a favorites post, what _I_ would want to listen to, ignoring (in so much as it's possible) the musical merit, influence, etc of the artist/album/genre. Meh, this is the stuff I like, as honestly as I could pick it out...

    1. Elliott Smith - Either/Or
    2. Elliott Smith - XO
    3. Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
    4. The Beatles - Revolver
    5. The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's
    6. Elliott Smith - Figure 8
    7. Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
    8. The Beatles - Rubber Soul
    9. Dream Theater - Awake
    10. 311 - Music
    11. The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour
