It's been a fun week again. Last week I went out to
Duffy's (West of Dufferin on Bloor) to check out
Wednesday night show. I loved
his performance of Wild Electric (the lead off single from his next
album) which Noel doesn't thing goes well on acoustic...I disagree.
Noel's album "Spirit of the day" is great, and his live show
is truly wonderful. The songs he writes remind me of John
Mayer but with a bit more of an edge lyrically - I recommend you
venture out on a Wednesday and check out his show.
Watching his show last week was also a small tour of Calgary
musicians visiting for Canadian Music Week with
both stopping by to hear Noel's
performance. They are all friends from Calgary and both
Sidney York and The Autumn Portrait were concluding tours across
the country on their way to their CMW performances. I was
flattered to be invited to play a few songs for Noel and his
friends (thanks Noel) and The Autumn Portrait gave an impromptu
acoustic performance as well - a fun night to be sure.
My Thursday Evening House Concert keeps getting better every
week and this week we were coming off of a great night on St.
Patrick's day when the house was full, and the audience was "well
lubricated". One of the things I love about
Thursday nights is that each one is a bit different and I get to
shine the light on a few of my friends that write some of the best
music in the city. This week
and Blair Stutz came out to do a
dress rehearsal of their set for CMW. All reports are that
they rocked the Library Bar at the Royal York on Saturday Night.
My own performance on Thursday was a bit of a change up as
this week with some of the band out on the injured (flu) list..it
was down to Sean (drums) and myself for most of the night - that's
right, we were kickin it white stripes style. If I do say so,
Sean is one of very few drummers that can support a guy with just
an acoustic guitar on drums, and I feel like in some ways it was
one of our best performances. So if you're coming to see our
Thursday show, it could just me, me and Sean, Me and Tex or
sometimes there are 7 of us on stage. So much fun,
you've got to see it to believe it.
Ok - one more thing. My new favourite song of the week
which is a new project by singer
songwriters Andrea Ramolo and Cindy Doire. Their song Wild
Fire ( you can check it out by going to their website
