Kazooka would not be as it is today, were it not be for the diversity between electronic and live music. Erik Fijlstra had already been producing music on his computer. Making samples and cutting them up into whole new sounds while mixing them with strong beats led him to produce his debut album as The Engineer, titled “Plug it in, turn it on”.

Meeting singer Ralf Geels through a mutual friend, they started to collaborate on songs really just to see if it would work. They could feel the creative chemistry almost right away and started making more songs together. While Erik was composing beats and cutting up samples, Ralf added lyrics and melody. It didn’t take long for them to come up with the idea of taking their music to the stage.

Coming from different musical backgrounds, Erik and Ralf both seemed to have a simular interest; pushing the boundries of music. Noticing the progress they were making, they now started to gather musicians in order to convert the digitally composed songs into a live set. Facing the challenges in merging electronic sounds and live instruments, Kazooka was formed.

The Kazooka line-up consists of members:

Erik Fijlstra;
keys, programming, composer, production

Ralf Geels;
lead vocals, song writer, production

Michael Souto Maior;
guitar, composer, production

David de Vries;

Bart van Dalen;

When composing their songs, Kazooka has never compromised in reaching their goals, which were to produce appealing and intelligent songs true to The Engineer’s electronic roots.

Songs as “Minds Like Mine”, “Feathers” and “85” distinguish the unique sound of this Amsterdam/Haarlem based electronic trip-pop- band.
