I get the sense that Choirs was a journey, but this is more of a drama. Of epic scale both. It remains the most challenging KD album as a whole, though the individual songs are powerful.

I really don't feel any song meanders. OLF's second half morphs into the percussive section perfectly, and the wait is definitely worth it. Amaranth's second half feels like a dream or an idea floating along, until it fades away. The album requires patience, but not as much as BLD demands from the listener.

Amaranth the Peddler is overlong. It's the only track which meanders perhaps in Toby's discography.

Yeah, I think OLF is probably far more suited to a live situation than to headphone listening.

OLF is my favorite song on the record by far, which is saying a lot. I primarily love how it's KD playing doom/drone metal and doing it better than most bands that do that full-time! You may be able to gain some appreciation for it by seeing it performed live, although I don't think the current line-up does it as well as the DAWCT crew did. :|

Hated On Limpid Form at first, and I mean reaaally hated it. I don't know what exactly happened, but listening to the album a few months later, I found I really love that song. So naw, not overlong imo

In a way, my feelings about Dowsing have not changed radically over time: the first three tracks are more or less 5-star material, but OLF and Amaranth feel too drawn out to me, especially OLF. Plus OLF's long apocalyptic stretch is ear murder with headphones (my primary listening mode) because of the high frequency feedback squeals.

One of the reasons why "Choirs" gets hailed over this is because of the gigantic buildups in COTE. This album is FAR more subtle about that sort of thing; on "Choirs", every song has a section where there's gigantic distorted guitar coming at you (not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you) and it all works with the ebb/flow vibe. On "Dowsing", there are only two tracks with the guitar explosion and it's generally a lot less "build and destroy"-centric. I honestly feel that DAWCT flows a lot better as an album; each track is placed perfectly. Whereas on COTE, I'd probably move a few tracks around. I could go on all day............ -_-

Not wrong at all..this album is fantastic. My first exposure to KD, so it'll always have a special place in my heart. Agreed wholeheartedly with Nestroit about being in the right mood...sometimes that's all it takes with certain pieces of music and this is undoubtedly one of them. This one makes me think of snow and/or late night drives...the way "Amaranth" closes it out in a floating fashion provides the perfect backing track for watching snow slowly pile up as it sticks to the ground at 1am...
