Kauan started in February 2005 and up to this moment had changed their name and genre - they started as a folk-black band but now they have moved to the direction of folk-doom.

In September 2006 Lubov Mushnikova joined the band as a violin player. The band has worked with other people as well but none of them eventually fit the band’s conception. During the recording of their first album some session members were invited to play cello and saxophone.

After the release of the first album, “Lumikuuro” (BadMoodMan Music, 2007), Alexander Borovich left the band. By now Kauan have recorded their second album “Tietäjän Laulu”, which was released by BMM Music in the late 2008.

Now Kauan is mixing their third album which will be released in late 2009 at BMM Music and Firebox rec.

Current line-up:

Anton Belov – guitar, vocals, keys, programming
Lyubov Mushnikova – violin

Thank you all for good comments! So nice to hear that people understood our changes in style. About stores and possibility to order Kauan CD: I wrote on all blogs, we released "Aava tuulen maa" on 2 labels, one from them is Finnish, so everyone worldwide, can buy an album from Firebox Rec. on-line store (http://firebox.fi) and it's on 5 languages, include English! (btw, Solitude Prod. store have English version as well). After all, if you'll write in Google name of album, you'll see alot of stores, and you can comfortably choose store for you. All best to everybody and thanks for feedback once again!

Wow! The latest album is fantastic! =D I love the complex layering in each of the arrangements, the sense of color created by the soundscapes, the shifting dynamics-- ...just about everything! =) Though my comment will no doubt be a sore thumb as I've only recently discovered Kauan, I intend to listen to their previous works right away... especially given their former, considerably darker sound. I don't suppose there's a possibility for an American fan like myself to be able to order the CD and extras of "Aava tuulen maa" that Anton mentioned? ;( It sure would have been awesome had I known about the preorders for the CD, or if I could at least read Finnish/Russian, ha ha. Anyway... if anyone reading this knows anything, please let me know. Kauan have truly impressed me and I am eager to show my newfound respect for this highly talented and enjoyable band! Cheers, guys! =)

The new album is amazing, it is a proof that this project is growing in confidence and profesionality. Exploring new soundscapes just makes their music greater and much more worthy, so keep going so.

Aava Tuulen Maa is brilliant. For me - the best Kauan album so far and the best 2009 release. I actually prefer the neofolk/ambient/whatever Kauan over the doom metal one.

Hello Anton, and other listeners :P Oh well, I've waited some time for this album to give it a listen, I was very looking forward to it. For the ones that loved the first album, enjoyed the second one I guess it will take some listening to get used to the new one. Still, if you love a peaceful, melancholic, atmospheric music you'll love the album in time. Personally Hommet, I dont think that it will be a back to the roots from Kauan, the albums evolved from Lumikuuro to this one, Tietajan Laulu was the album that was the buffer between this transition. Anton, I see that "Aava Tuulen Maa" went more into a sound more familiar to Strecosa project. Anyhow, i like the album, it relaxes me but I'm also a little on the older albums side ... maybe in the next album we'll see some more drums and electric guitar :P Still, a good job :)

well in the end it depends on what you're listening to..and what you prefer.. i prefer the new kauan simply because i've been listening to similar stuff for months now.. i've been listening to them since day 0 and even tho i recognize that lumikuuro is a masterpiece you can't make always the same record over and over..what impresses me the most is the quality of each album and the almost maniacal regard to details.. if you listen to aava tuulen maa on your headphones u'll know what i'm talking about.

By first listenning to teh new album I got really disappointed just bcuz I anticipated the same stuff from them, It took time for me to become familiar with the new style and now I like it. I hope they will change back to their roots in previous albums. Aava Tuulen Maa is enjoyable for a new Kauan listener but not for old fans.

i guess the new album sounds like an ambient trip (post) rock album.. Föhn is maybe the best song they've released so far.. it holds all the elements that kauan has released so far.

this is stuff that goes beyond a simple optical device.. it's the search of your true self ..it's almost spiritual..it's unbelievable 5 songs.. five stars. If i were to choose between the most beautiful things in life this music would probably fit in.

I love Lumikuuro, but the new album is really disappointing.:( I mean the music is nice, but there is nothing unique about it, just regular neofolk/ambient. I hope Anton will go back to the style that made me love him.:)

The vocals are tremendously harsh without sounding any less like a voice, it's great. Really nice atmosphere on the Summoning cover, which was done fairly well.
