Kauan started by Anton Belov (Helengard, inea) in February 2005 and up to this moment had changed their name and genre - they started as a folk black band, then moved to the direction of doom, rock and ambient with their sophomore album, and could now be considered as a ambient post rock/metal band with big influence of Pink Floyd.

After the release of the first album, “Lumikuuro” (BadMoodMan Music, 2007), Alexander Borovikh (co-founder) left the band and right after that Kauan recorded their second album “Tietäjän laulu”, which was released by BMM Music in the late 2008.

In late 2009, Kauan released their third album, “Aava tuulen maa” (Firebox Rec, 2009). At this point the band changed their genre to atmospheric folk rock, post-rock with sad and melancholic variations which has always been a distinctive mark of Kauan.

In summer 2011, Kauan released their 4th (and last, at the moment) album “Kuu…” (Avantgarde Music, 2011) which contains 4 long tales in different atmospheric genres from post rock to ambient.

For now (summer, 2013), Lubov Mushnikova left the band, and Kauan recorded their 5th album “Pirut” which will be release in autumn 2013 by FIN/USA label Blood Music.

Current line-up:

Anton Belov – music, vocals
Alex Vynogradoff – bass-guitar, vocals
Alina Belova – keys, vocals
Anatoly Gavrylov – viola
Anton Skrynnik – drums

@Defiler, Yeah, strange. On the contrary KYPCK, a Finnish doom band sings in Russian but does it very well, since the singer speaks fluent Russian and has worked in the embassy in Moscow, if I recall correctly he also teaches Russian here in Finland.

Aava Tuulen Maa"?

Surprisingly varied and interesting band. They managed to somehow blend everything I ever ennoyed listening to as some point of their career, going from black metal to post-rock. Just putting their discography (but withouty the lastes one, I lack it still) as a separate playlist gives rich, calming, varied experience.

@rolle- Apparently they write the lyrics in Russian and then translate them to Finnish. I have no idea why/how that works at all, but you're right, they reveal themselves as non-native speakers instantly.

Found this accidentally on Spotify. Truly beautiful music! When I first heard the vocals I instanlty knew this can't be a finnish singer or band. As a finn you can really tell when non-native pronounces the words. Some of the lyrics doesn't make sense or I'm hearing them wrong. Anyways, amazing project musically and my respect for singing my language I know is very hard for non-Finns.
