About this album

Peaceville Records (2011) Released: 1 Apr 2011 11 tracks (48:33)
Night Is The New Day is Katatonia’s eighth full-length album. It was released on 2 November 2009 in Europe and on 10 November 2009 in North America through Peaceville Records. 13 tracks were recorded, 12 of which made it onto the record.
The band describes the material as “our most varied, diverse and possibly strongest shit all together on one and the same album.” The critical reception was similarly positive, with one reviewer saying calling the record “Katatonia’s finest work to date - an album staggering in both its ambition and its accessibility, showcasing beauty and despair in equal measure.”

The song “Day and Then the Shade” was the first single to be released in late 2009. The promotional video for this song was directed by Lasse Hoile.
During the first week of this album’s release, Night Is the New Day sold more than 2,000 copies in the United States.

Idle Blood is the only one song I keep coming back to. The album as a whole is quite good, but isn't often BRILLIANT, in my humble opinion.

This album feels like walking in a nightly park in a post-apocalyptic world, with ashen leaves falling from beautiful blacken ash grey trees and the horizon is glowing in red. So evocative and beautiful :)

After a long absence from Katatonia, this album is dragging me more and more back in; whatever it is about this album all I know is its beautiful...and depressing...seriously guy, would it hurt to have one song about the joys of life, puppies and rainbows?

I personally prefer Great Cold Distance, Viva Emptiness and Last Fair Deal Gone Down. Still a good album, though, but it didn't catch me that much.

This just doesn't do it for me. Part of it sounds like recycled material from their other albums after 2000, part of it is just boring. I see other comments here how they "found it" after everything from 5-15 listens, but I can't recall any album I've ever had that with. To me, it just doesn't have the necessary edge, like Last Fair Deal Gone Down, which also was very melodic, but still had impact. Ah well, one album out of a great discography, I'll take it.
