About this album

808s & Heartbreak is the fourth studio album by American hip hop artist Kanye West, released November 24, 2008 on Roc-A-Fella Records. It was recorded after the death of his mother and breakup of a relationship and has a very different sound compared to his previous albums.

The album was originally scheduled for a December 16 release, but was pushed forward to increase sales during the holiday season. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. 808s & Heartbreak is West’s first album without the Parental Advisory logo. The album has sold over 1,023,927 copies, making it West’s fourth album to reach platinum status.

Love Lockdown peaked @ #3 on the Billboard Top 100 & Heartless has peaked at #4 on the Billboard Top 100.

Lil’ Wayne, Young Jeezy, Kid Cudi, Mr. Hudson, & Tony Williams appear on the album.

On December 4, 2008, “Street Lights” appeared at the completion of an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

Sometimes, this is my favorite album of him. It's a masterpiece and people still don't realize how influential it is, even after six years.

Shittiest Kanye album ever. This is some Black Eyed Peas level of 'music'. What a piece of garbage.

It's growing on me.. But not his best for sure, some killer songs but that's it.

The singles on here are great. The other songs lack something though. I don't have a problem with the lyrics, the mood, or even the autotune, I just think some of the material is weak enough to make it his most uneven album. [2]

They probably have less time for shallowness than whites! Some people seem to look at Yeezus as brave, brazen and ironic - utilizing the much-maligned autotune to give the robot a heart and convey emotion amidst a sparse, straightforward electronic background. I find 808s whiney, narcissistic and dull. In almost every track is Kanye an overly imploring, blameless victim of some sort (for someone who's had their heart broken, there's not much honesty) and the emotions expressed are frequently brought down by weak, hackneyed lyrics. There's nothing wrong with simplicity and sometimes Ye gets it right but too often is the restraint a negative. Shit like Robocop is god-awful.

Do any black people fuck with this album, outside of Kanye himself?

Best album [12]. Just what the fuck. I dreaded the album when Love Lockdown came out, out of context, but he actually turned auto-tune into an art-form with this record. It helps that the beats are dark and fucking sick.
