"Icarus (Born On Wings Of Steel)" and "Portrait (He Knew)" are both fantastic gems, anyone else agree?

These charts actually piss me off...they are remarkably underappreciated. At least Song for America is high on the charts, but it saddens me to think that many will never know the awesomeness of The Pinnacle or Death of Mother Nature Suite. Hell, the title track off Point of Know Return is just as catchy and loveable!

Underappreciated in the scheme of things, despite two hit singles. Love their prog material I've heard AND the radio oriented tracks.

v Hi, people who watch commercial TV shows and are willing to dig more rock bands from the 70's: you could dig "Close to the Edge" by the English band "Yes". It's 20 minutes long (a whole LP Vinyl side) and it's the best song of the 1970's, across all music genres. Even Black Sabbath were constantly begging Yes' keyboardist Rick Wakeman to come and join them. If you find a better 70's song, let me know. Kansas (and Pink Floyd) were amazing and very important bands, but they were always about one Prog-rock league below ELP, Yes, Rush or King Crimson. Even Steve Walsh or Waters/Gilmour could admit that.

It's great how tv show can make young people listen to the rock band from 70th :)

@MasaakiHatsumi: "Classic rock" is a term so vague, using it almost never makes sense. @Neue_regel_: Why do you think that the terms "commercial hit" and "progressive rock" are mutually exclusive? I don't see why that must be so. Kansas knew how to both make thoughtful, complex music and rock hard, something that quite a few prog bands lacked.

Also, without Kansas, ELP, Yes or Rush, then Dream Theater would not exist today; as they repeatedly have said in interviews. Kansas was primarily a Progressive rock band regardless of their later commercial radio hits. (Dust.. and Carry On..) Hence, their extensive use of violin, experimentation, and keyboards, much more than the classic rock standards.
