Kamelot is a progressive/power metal band from Tampa, Florida that incorporates progressive and symphonic elements into their music. The band was founded by guitarist Thomas Youngblood and drummer Richard Warner in 1992.

In 1994 the band signed a deal with Noise Records; the release of their debut album Eternity followed in 1995. The next album, Dominion, was released in 1997.

Later that year, two of the band’s members were replaced; drummer and founder Richard Warner and lead vocalist Mark Vanderbilt. Respectively, their replacements were Casey Grillo and Roy Khan (Roy Sætre «Khan» Khantatat from Elverum in Norway - formerly of Conception). With the two new members, Kamelot released their third studio album, Siege Perilous. The new line-up undertook an extensive tour through Europe during the fall of the same year only to return to the Gate Studio in Wolfsburg twelve months later to produce the fourth studio effort The Fourth Legacy.

The summer of 2000 brought the “New Allegiance Tour” through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Greece and Spain during which the recordings for Kamelot’s first live album The Expedition were made. Only a few months later the band presented their fifth album entitled Karma, to the greatest critical success yet. Their sixth album, Epica was released in 2003.

Kamelot hasn't made a cover of Out in the Fields, SonicX was talking about Dark at Dawn.

"Too bad Kamelot's got the annoying tendency to become unhearable after having it on your MP3 player for a few days. I've been listening to it before, picked it up again roughly a week ago and now I can't stand it anymore" <-- This is often my problem with Kamelot, although not as severe. Sometimes I find that their songs are too catchy, they just stick in my head and irritate me ^__^;; Luckily they're not doing that to me at the moment though, so I can enjoy them. @SonicX: Huh, interesting, I didn't know Kamelot had done a cover of Out in the Fields (have to check it out sometime). Sonata are my favourite band but even I don't think they did a very good job covering that song, compared to their usual skill with covers.

His vocals in Mirror Mirror are stunning. The Elizabeth trilogy is one of his finest moments as a singer.

Like I said a while before, listen to Elizabeth I - Mirror Mirror. It's incredible what Khan pulls off there. Also, I do not see the connection between high singing and being gay. Most of the people who have such a mentality don't go further than the stuff they hear on MTV or the radio, and criticize it because they believe it's not cool to listen to such music.

And if skills have something to do with sexual orientation, it seems that gays sing better than straights... :D Anyway, yes, the intro for Memento Mori is something beyond Khan has ever done. I should also mention Angra's cover of the Kate Bush song Wuthering Heights now, sung by André Matos. While André really doesn't sound like a woman singing like that, more like a meowing cat :D, the cover still is insane, thinking it is sung by a MALE! Anyway, who I think beat Khan sounding femalish is Queensrÿche's singer Geoff Tate on my quite possibly favorite album ever, Operation: Mindcrime. What to say? The only album for me the songs themselves doesn't matter at all. I only recognize that the music works very well, QR have a very pleasant style on that album... but the story and the vocals just blow the mind, literally. :P I'm sorry though that I don't have to opportunity to join the Khan live vocals fanclub so far - the only time I've seen them live he had some serious problems. :/

I love when male singers sing parts in a high falsetto.

Ok, I know I am a bot annoying, but Kamelot's shoutbox is just so well civilized (unlike most) that it's hard not to write anything here. Plus all I need is someone to tell me to stop and I'll write no more. Back to vocals now - throughout the LAST.FM I see various bands with male vocals tagged as female. Amusing. If I was a troll, I would tag part of the "Memento Mori"'s intro as female, because that's how I hear it - for a few seconds Roy sings so high that he sounds almost like a woman. People find is funny. I find it highly skillful - to sing like that without throwing up after a minute is to be admired. So before you flame a band for being both female and gay, at least give them a slight recognition. Because Rob Halford is a real gay, but not many people can say something negative about his singing. Freddie Mercury too. Skill has nothing to do with sexual orientation.

Drinking my black coffee in front of the PC, listening to Descend of The Archangel. What a perfect start of the day. I would say that Kamelot are not the only different power metal band (although more like symphonic I think). Dark at Dawn were also somewhat different - not the best band in it's genre, but I would say pretty good. The rough vocals and dark lyrics, combined with a descent guitar work definitely got my attention. They made an excellent cover of Gary More's "Out In The Fields", unlike Sonata Arctica (no offense to the fans) who added the dreadful keyboard and ruined it for me. Sabaton are also a good choice, but in my opinion Sabaton are more of a heavy rather than a power metal band (despite the keyboard). You like power or you don't, no matter how clichéd the vocals sound. I'm fed up by all those 'whiners', but if I like them, I like them. Examples are SA and RoF - Im more neutral toward the first while I like the second even if their lyrics are extremely annoying.
