About this album
Live at Vega is a live double album by Kaizers Orchestra, released on March 6, 2006. The concert was recorded at Vega in Copenhagen, Denmark, on October 18, 2005; one of the final concerts in the first leg of the tour for their third studio album, Maestro. The album features all twenty-four songs played at the show, including songs from each of the studio albums as well as some of their EP releases. A live DVD of the same show, Viva La Vega, was released later in 2006.
A decision to record a live album and DVD was made sometime prior to the release of Maestro. The band had, ever since they first performed at the venue in 2003, considered Vega in Copenhagen, Denmark one of their favorite venues. As a result, the band decided on Vega as the location for the recording of the live album and DVD. The concert featured a set of twenty-four songs, virtually identical to the concert held on the night before, only featuring “Die Polizei”, a song which had never seen prior release, as the final encore.
During the editing and mastering of the DVD, the audio track for the pump organ was accidentally deleted, requiring Helge Risa, the band’s organist, to travel to the studio by himself and re-record the entire pump organ track for all songs on which it was used, a task he completed without hesitation or complaint. “Blitzregn baby”, as performed at Vega, was released as a single for the album, with the Vega performance (edited using several different camera angles than in the DVD version) serving as the video.
