What can i say - a revelation.
I only had the vaguest idea of what i was letting myself in for when i went along to this 'meeting' of musics. In fact my main reason for going was that i'd seen Evan Parker some years previous sharing the bill with another saxophonist (the Carnatic Indian musician, Kadri Gopalnath) and felt that i hadn't seen the best of him - simply because it was clear that most of the audience were there to see Gopalnath and weren't interested in free jazz.
The other two improv musicians were unknown to me (i don't know this kind of music very well at all in truth) and the Japanese 'turntable musician' not at all (in fact i couldn't imagine what a turntable musician could be - maybe like one of those guys who used to do the scratching on old hip-hop records?).
Wrong, wrong. DJ Sniff plays records as musical instruments. He finds small snatches of sound on them and combining them, repeating them…
