As a Drummer-Songwriter-Performer for many years, King Crab (Steve Crabtree), has performed in a broad spectrum of music = from studio work and LIVE performances with numerous bands, to individual musical experimental projects, which has led him into the world of songwriting, as well as drumming with notable artists, such as Rocky Athas and Lightning, and studio work with blues guitarist extraordinaire, Buddy Whittington on THE HILTONS CD “Room Service”. Steve’s original songs cover a WIDE range of genres, from classic rock to country to House music, King Crab (his songwriting moniker) believes in “writing what he hears”. Pop, Rock, and Country (crossover) songs display the influences, from The Beatles to Crossover with a hint of blues-rock hiding in the songs. Steve, after playing on the road, was bitten by the songwriting bug, but decided to learn other instruments AND learn to sing - well enough to make DEMO quality songs because “I wanted the song to sound exactly like I heard it in my head.”

The best way to describe Steve’s songwriting is to ask him what he thinks about music, and how to approach it. “As performer, add to the song, not to yourself. As a drummer, you should be the foundation and concrete of the band or the recording. If you go unnoticed? You have done your job well. As a songwriter, my best advice = BE “ORIGINAL! Write songs from experience, from your heart. It’s easy to tell a REAL song from a formula song. Network with songwriters, producers, and performers. NO ONE can make it alone in the music business, so make friends and new acquaintances. You never know what can happen. Write from your heart, play your best, be yourself, and the rest will fall into place.”
