Somalia (3:34)

Cover of Troubadour

From Troubadour and 1 other release

Somalia, off of K’naan’s new album “Troubadour” is a song written about Somalian Pirates. K’naan’s often vocal about this issue, and takes a different side than most news networks show. “Somalian’s cant readily condemn pirates,” says K’naan. “Somalia” has an official music video, which can be found on youtube.

@thesakesishigh so true so true. That is why with the pirate situation in Somalia I understand where K'naan is coming especially since the demise of a formal government structure within the country. Did you see this essay K'naan wrote? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-vazquez/on-pirates_b_186015.html

@2Serenity That ancient act of terror is the only way they see to improve their lives. They're a product of being born into a nation that's had two civil wars in the last half of the twentieth century. They don't really have any oppurtunities to improve their lives like the rest of us and turn to desperation.

This song is so timely especially dealing with the pirate situation in Somalia and in Africa. I never understood why that ancient act of terror is still used?! See here => http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5is1GjnzYGI9cen-oyLiMPZdY6NFg ...The line that is empowering and makes my ears scream say what is when K'naan says, "coffin closing." Wow......made me think of all the people I know who have died but especially those who I know who died by human error. My godbrother died in a freak car accident in Feb 2008 and when I heard K'naan say "coffins closing" I immediately flash backed to his funeral when I saw his coffin close. : /
