  • I actually noticed in live plays of this song on YouTube, the instrument used is a guitar not 3ouds. I'm not sure if that's what's on the studio recording though, perhaps it is and it's easier to obtain guitarists than those who know how to play the 3oud for touring. I'd have to listen again though as I don't really remember what it sounds like, it's been awhile.
  • Roc_Melo and MickdaKwick: hoobaale is just a word that mothers repeat during a lullaby for children when they're trying to "sasab" them to sleep, basically slowly rock and calm them to sleep if they're being fussy or crying, or need to sleep. The chant meter K'naan is using is a very common one for old Somali lullabies. The 3oud he is playing with it though is something a little different, but the rhythm there is very common as well. He starts out by naming who's there sitting with them that night for the occasion, a tradition when playing a "formal" 3oud song like this.
