The Köyhät Ritarit (Poor Knights) have specialised in the dramatic performance of ancient Finnish and European vocal music to the accompaniment of instruments. Their repertoire also includes commissioned modern secular and church music. The group have given concerts in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, The Sovjet Union, the UK, the USA and Canada and has made programmes for different radio and TV companies. The recordings of the ensamble range from children songs and ballads to early and modern art music. The home town of the ensemble is Espoo.

The Köyhät Ritarit are:
Eero Hirvensalo (vocals,percussion instruments)
Arto Joutsimäki (vocals, percussion instruments)
Herman Rechberger (windinstruments, kantele)

Sampo Suihko (vocals, percussion instruments, jew’s harp)
Seppo Suihko (vocals, percussion instruments, bullroarer)
Jukka Uosukainen (vocals, percussion instruments)

The PRIMO ensemble (PRIMO standing for Primitive Music Orchestra) has since 1979 been contributing to making ancient Finnish music more popular. All the members of the group are professionally involved with folk music, Heikki Laitinen and Hannu Saha as researchers, Rauno Nieminen as a maker of instruments. The general tendency of the group is to observe the ancient style of performance as closely as possible, but also to search for new ways and try to combine ancient elements with modern ones.

Heikki Laitinen (vocals, wind instruments, saman drum, bullroarer, kantele, bowed harp, jew’s harp)
Rauno Nieminen (wind instruments, bowed harp)
