Promised Land (3:39)

Cover of Peggy Suicide

From Peggy Suicide

“Promised Land, or “Britain on Its Knees” - this is a song about a man who walks every road, every street, every by-way of the British Isles. He is gobsmacked, undone and confused by the dis-unity of his country. Rich people are getting richer, the homeless are growing in number every day. Backs were breaking under the weight of Thatcheration - but since I recorded this song in September, she’s become the Dull Witch of Dulwich, a back seat driver, hectoring John Major, the son-in-law in front. Still, we must act now. It is our DUTY. There’s professor of politics at Princeton University, Alan Ryan is his name. Speaking on democracy, he says, “It is the duty of every citizen to know when to obey and when to DISOBEY his government”. Right On.”
