Biography

This September, Wagon Repair will release Toppings, the first album by Canadian producer Jules Chaz.

Comprising 21 instrumental hip-hop tracks, Toppings is an unusual move for Wagon Repair, a label renowned for its more 4/4 orientated club material. Though this is his first release of any kind to date, Chaz has been an active producer for years, and claims to have over 300 songs already completed. On Toppings, his style is syncopated and glitchy, tossing up reggae and bangra samples with snippets from Twin Peaks and other such miscellany. The album was recorded at his home studio in Victoria, and includes guest appearances by Cobblestone Jazz keyboardist Danuel Tate and Vancouver-based emcee Ishkan.
