Biography

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1968 – present)

Joyce is a mononym of Joycé Silveira Palhano de Jesus (b. 31 Jan 1948, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), a mpb / bossa nova singer / guitarist / composer / arranger who débuted with the album “Joyce” (1968, Philips) and, aside from subsiquent collaborations, her latest is “Slow Music” (Jul 2009, Biscoito Fino).

Since her 1968 premier, she has recorded over twenty solo albums & appeared on many records (e.g. with Elis Regina, Toninho Horta, and Vinicius de Moraes & Yoko Kanno). In recent years, she has collaborated extensively with João Donato. Much of Joyce’s work has been compared to the early boom of the jazz fusion scene, in the USA.
