Joy plays steel pan and percussion and sings backing vocals for Mr Hudson & The Library, and appears on their debut album ‘A Tale Of Two Cities’. She also drums and sings backing for I Blame Coco (with Sting’s daughter Coco Sumner), and has written and sung for The HeartShake (alongside Jo Maeva). She is also renowned on the London club scene as a live percussionist and scene maker (recent djs she has worked with include Femi B, Rap Saunders, Paul Trouble Anderson, Guy Williams, Severino, Booker T, Danny Rampling, Boy George & DJ Disciple).
Joy’s debut solo single, “Our Love Is Taking Us Through”, was released on Frizz Records in August ‘08, and was written and produced by Raphael Mann (Mr Hudson & The Library/August/Art Terry). Joy’s solo style shows off the eclectic range of her influences and her varied musical experience, with elements of roots reggae, dancehall and lovers rock, house and electro, r&b and vintage soul and jazz. Joy cites her major influences as including Kassav, Alexander D Great, Ella Fitzgerald, Astrid Gilberto, Bob Marley, Soul2soul, Tony Allen, Janet Kay and Carroll Thompson.
