French rendering of Dutch “Josken Van De Velde”, diminutive of “Joseph Van De Velde”; latinized Josquinus Pratensis, alternatively Jodocus Pratensis) (c. 1450 to 1455 – August 27, 1521) was a Franco-Flemish composer of the Renaissance. He was the most famous European composer between Guillaume Dufay and Palestrina, and is usually considered to be the central figure of the Franco-Flemish School.

The man of subtle counterpoint, merely detectable similar themes before Bach came to be the master of counterpoint. Truly a great artist of who has explored the depths of purely vocal music of that period. Also, I agree with arlaqin, Renaissance is criminally overlooked for some reason. I guess it's because people don't want to dig further in time than the Common Era music (Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism, etc.).
