    @MarleyMoose, I was wondering what makes you think that the lyrics are not literal. The one think that has prevented me from fully embracing this song was what I perceived to be it's strong and literal religious message/story, if you could let me know why you don't think the lyrics should be taken literally I would greatly appreciate it :) !
