Jonita Gandhi is a singer. Born in New Delhi, India, she came to Canada as a permanent resident in 1990, at the age of 9 months. With music running in the family, she has been singing since she was just a little child, and gave her first singing performance when she was 7 with the song ‘Mai ni Mai’ with a live Orchestra in front of an audience of about 500 people. She demonstrated a great level of confidence, and it was evident that she was gifted with knowledge of scale and rhythm. She has been dancing since she was even younger, when at the age of 3 and a half years, she performed for the first time with a dance item on the song “Channe Ke Khet Mein”. She took the audience by surprise with her precise dance movements. Since then, Jonita has been performing in various stage performances. As well as practicing Hindustani music, she has been trained in English classical music at the Ontario Conservatory of Music. She is currently a first year pre-Ivey student at the University of Western Ontario, in the Health Sciences program. In taking music courses, she continues to practice her singing at university while performing in the community. In fact, Western University recognized her talent as she finished in the top five of the Western Idol university-wide competition this year. She enjoys singing a wide variety of styles and languages, particularly Indian and Bollywood music. In the future, Jonita hopes to spread her musical talent and expand her reach as far as possible.
