JON HOPE Many critics suggest that “hip hop is dead” due to the new artists’ lack of originality and substance. With everyone focused on ring tones and publicity rap beefs, one could only ‘hope’ for a change for the better. Look no further than lyrical savior, Jon Hope, whose inspiring words and delicate flow serve as food for thought to hip hop fans alike. Jon Hope was born in Providence, Rhode Island, a city not known for its hip hop scene. However, his skills caught the eyes of many as he was featured in some of the music industry’s high profile publications such as Allhiphop. com, XXL.mag.com, and Billboard.com. He debuted in 2006 with the single “Breathin” produced by Taktix, which helped establish a reputation in the underground scene. He capitalized off his amplified buzz with the release of To Whom It May Concern which moved over 2500 units independently. The project received rave reviews and thus cultivated a loyal fanbase that spanned worldwide. With the hype ever-growing, Jon Hope performed throughout the country sharing the stage with hip hop elites like Nas, Mobb Deep, and the legendary Rakim. He also worked with G.O.O.D. Music producer Devo Springsteen, who is noted for his work with Common and Kanye West. Hope laments “I bring a different perspective to the game since I’m not coming from a big city like L.A. or N.Y., which inspires those who are afraid to rep where they’re from and be themselves.” It’s only a matter of time before the masses takes witness the audacity of Jon Hope.
