John Rutter (born September 24, 1945) is an English composer, choral conductor, editor, arranger and record producer.

Born in London, he was educated at Highgate School, where a fellow pupil was John Tavener. He then studied music at Clare College, Cambridge, where he was organ scholar and then director of music from 1975 to 1979.   • John Rutter will go into history with the other great composers of choral works. His musicality rivals Brahm's choral works. When you sing them with a group they may bring tears to your eyes, they are so inspirational.

  • This guy is a mad dog! I played in a performance of his Gloria, and while we were ill-prepared, it was thoroughly enjoyable. Well I don't know about the audience. It was pretty hectic almost sight-reading tenor clef, and all those cool time signatures too...
