CaseyDeAnn, I disagree that he's "glorifying" the idea of divorce. In actuality, I believe he's reinforcing the idea of what marriage should be about. It should be about marrying to "marry just once" (with the person you're in love with) and realizing that when he "said eternity", he meant it, forever, with every bone in his body. Though he's not naive and understands there's always the possibility... unfortunately. The whole theme of the song is about cherishing a home life - seeing something through for what it's worth.
