John Mark Arcilla is a law student studying at the UP College of Law, hoping to pass the first semester of his first year so he could retain his “law student” status. He is also a licensed geologist since 2008, having passed the board exam after graduating from his Geology undergraduate at the National Institute of Geological Sciences in UP Diliman. But he really wants to be known as a “very serious bedroom musician”.
At the age of eight years old, with a small pre-pubescent voice and a knowledge of four guitar chords his father taught him, he started to write and record silly one-minute songs on his tape recorder. At the age of 12, armed with a laptop running Windows 95, he pieced together short sound files and read passages from his parents’ law books.
He re-learned the guitar at age 14 and wrote his first decent song at age 15 when he put a melody to one of his poems. He formed bands with his high school friends, and ended up writing their high school graduation song.
Since 2003, he has been attempting to record his songs in his bedroom. His recording setup eventually evolved from from a single computer mic to a “full-fledged amateur bedroom recording setup”.
He came up with Bedroom Sounds Vol. 1 in May 2010, played on nU107’s In the Raw. He released Bedroom Sounds Vol. 2 in July 2010.
