One half of They Might Be Giants, Linnell is known for his easily recognizable voice and unbelievable lyrical talents and musical abilities. Garnering widespread praise for its melodies, his album State Songs was released in 1999.
I think you will find few fans opposing your view, but I really like Mono Puff AND Linnell's solo work!! I think maybe Flansburgh's TMBG stuff would be a little more interesting if he could do more things Linnell is less comfortable doing.
i'm not trying to start a debate here, but hearing mono puff versus linnell's solo work makes me realize that linnell really is the driving force of the band for me. flansburh is good and has some cool songs, but linnell is a lyrical and compositional master in my opinion. he really puts forth the bizzare, surreal, and yet still pop sound that i adore from tmbg. i also like his voice more. but yeah, the group of linnell and flanny is still a really great duo and the team work probably helps him write. also, we would never have heard of linnell without flans.
