One of my faves of John Frusciante's, which is a very long list." "John's vocal performance will never top Buckley's one... but he did an amazing job on the instrumental part and on the sound of the song...these chillout notes in the beggining, this underwater like voice and this buzzing piano...wow...it gives me goosebumps from the beginning to the end." HELL YES.

"Frusciante's voice is what makes the lyrics in this song sound even better than the original and bring out so much more emotion in them." ok, no. that's absolute bullshit. this is a good cover, but have you actually heard the original? Frusciante can sing, but Tim Buckley is one of the greatest singers ever. this cover deserves respect, but do not say such ridiculous things. the original has so much emotional power than won't ever be touched.

Altough he tried the best he can, this version is definitely worse than Tim Buckley's one. But respect for attempt.

Allright. Trick question: which version of this song? Buckley, This Mortal Coil or Frusciante? (for me personally it's TMC, but this one's okay too)

the version on the monkees is hard to beat. the studio one, not so much. in my opinion. this one is up there, the vocals are haunting. however, i don't like saying if its better or not. different versions for different days.

  • NietzcheGuevara

It's better than the original because the original was so badly produced, and Frusciante has captured the emotion perfectly for a man who is been through his fair share of pain. That's not to say the originals bad - it blows most mainstream shit out of the water - but I think the live version Tim recorded on some TV show was better rendition.

No way... he polished it but doesn't top the original.

Disagree. Frusciante made a new song here. It sounds so different and energized in pain.and has everything that's original missing.
