Frusciante's voice is what makes the lyrics in this song sound even better than the original and bring out so much more emotion in them. One of my faves of John Frusciante's, which is a very long list.

It's better than the original because the original was so badly produced, and Frusciante has captured the emotion perfectly for a man who is been through his fair share of pain. That's not to say the originals bad - it blows most mainstream shit out of the water - but I think the live version Tim recorded on some TV show was better rendition.

I'm a little disappointed with this, basically because the original set the bar so high. Sounds like it's under water lol. When I heard he was going to cover this I was so excited, but my qualm is basically the restrained/subdued vocals, and the twinge of effects on his voice. I wanted those booming powerful notes of his. Otherwise still a very enjoyable piece, starts the album's progressive build well.
