What about the Aussie country and western singer-songwriter and the father of Warren Ellis???? His songs are really hard to find but a few are here on last.fm with: "Mis'ry Is My Middle Name", "King Of The Cowboys", "What Did I Do" and "The River Looks Lonely Tonight".
