Joan Jett (Joan Marie Larkin, nacida el 22 de septiembre de 1958 en Filadelfia, Pensilvania, Estados Unidos) es una cantante, guitarrista, productora, y ocasionalmente actriz.
Con 16 años, en 1976, formó parte, como compositora, guitarra y voz, de la banda femenina «The Runaways», junto a Cherie Currie (voz solista, piano), Lita Ford (guitarra solista), Sandy West (batería y coros) y Jackie Fox (bajo). Es co-autora con Kim Fowley del temazo «Cherry Bomb», primer corte del Lp «The Runaways», toda una declaración de intenciones adolescente.
Joan Jett es más conocida por sus hits I love Rock n Roll, que fue número uno en las listas de Billboard desde el 20 de marzo hasta el 8 de mayo de 1982, Crimson and Clover, Do you Wanna Touch Me, Light of Day, «I Hate Myself For Loving You, Little Liar y Love Is All Around.
Probablemente Joan Jett sea una de las figuras femeninas más importantes de la historia del rock. Bandas como Bikini Kill, Shonen Knife, L7, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kittie, The Donnas ou Hole declararon públicamente la influencia de Joan en su música.
