Baez has something of the Midas touch, though it proved to be just as fatal as old king's. She is one of the few that can easily turn one of Dylan's harsh, arrogant tunes of condemnation or one of Lennon's reprobate lullabies into something really beautiful and sweet. Unfortunately, her own ability to create something (other than reproductions of others' songs) was never fully developed. She writes, but not as much as she should.
I feel we have lost a great amount of potential to the folk tradition of covering old standards. Still, she's an absolute delight to listen to. I'm glad she's still around and kickin'.
Joan has been in front of the movement since the sixties... if you have not been on the train with Joan for the past 50 years.. you cannot understand ...
FROM ME N JOAN -- "we don't care what you think - we are at peace with peace".
You people are rude as hell -.- I am not a Baez fan, but it's ignorant to insinuate that she lacked talent or skill. This stuff is all subjective. I don't even like her version of this song, but unlike some commentators I'm not pretentious enough to act as if my disliking of the song makes it universally sucky.
As you guess hualon is only my nickname. My real name is Oliver Hardy, I'm a famous actor, and i'm looking here only for my friend Stan. Please write me a note if you see him anywhere around. Thank you!
