Frozen Charlotte (5:24)

Cover of Lightness

From Lightness

This is a public-domain ballad (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Charlotte) apparently based on an actual 19th century event, memorialized in a poem by a Maine writer in 1843. The accompaniment is a synthesized harmonica. The ballad has contributed several notable phrases to the English language, including “You’ll catch your death of cold”.

The ballad was the inspiration for the Frozen Charlotte doll http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frozen_Charlotte_%28doll%29 .
