Jill Sobule (born January 16, 1965 in Denver, Colorado) is an American best known for the then-controversial song, I Kissed a Girl (not to be confused with the 2008 Katy Perry hit song of the same name) and for Supermodel from the soundtrack of the hit 1995 film Clueless. In 1990, she released her debut album Things Here Are Different. Over the next sixteen years, she would go on to record five more records, three EPs and a greatest hits compilation. Though her albums are often critically acclaimed, Sobule remains more of an artist, playing for fans across the United States in smaller, more personal settings.

In many of her songs, she incorporates into a narrative, some tracks ultimately becoming catchy anecdotes. Generally, her songs are unconventionally -like, using horn arrangements not found in tracks recorded by mainstream artists. Sobule also uses both satire and experience to sing about sexuality, depression, war, abandonment, and creed.

<<Katy Perry is a "Legend">> --- yeah, a legend of bad taste, maybe. Meh. It's not so much intelligent to compare artists like that, but ... I can't refrain myself to no stand against this kind of affirmations. Jill Sobule at least can play guitar :-) She have a nicest voice anyway, and her songs are much more enjoyable. So I'd say she is more of a legend...

Katy Perry is a "legend". Things you learn on the internet. Anyway, it's a silly comparison based on a trivial overlap in song titles. It's a little like imagining there's a feud between Justin Timberlake and Leonard Cohen if Timberlake happened to have a song called 'Suzanne' (and if Cohen were funnier).

I love her. She's such a great songwriter. And I love that she wrote some of the music for the show Unfabulous.

I remeber hearing her a long time ago, but I've only started to listen to her after watching a episode of Beavis and Butthead and I Kissed A Girl was on it. I instantly searched the song and got into her debut.

Great quote.. "When Katy Perry's song came out I started getting tons of inquiries about what I thought. Some folks (and protective friends) were angry, and wondered why she took my title and made it into this kind of 'girls gone wild' thing.... As a musician I have always refrained from criticizing another artist. I was, 'Well, good for her.' It did bug me a little bit, however, when she said she came up with the idea for the title in a dream. In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995. I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don't want to sound bitter or petty... Okay, maybe, if I really think about it, there were a few jealous and pissed-off moments. So here goes, for the first time in an interview: Fuck you Katy Perry, you fucking stupid, maybe 'not good for the gays,' title-thieving, haven't heard much else, so not quite sure if you're talented, fucking little slut. God that felt good."
