Jesse Statman (b. 1993) is a musician from Brooklyn, NY, USA. He performs solo acoustic gigs all around NYC, and is the frontman of a rock duo called Cannonball Statman. He records prolifically in his home studio. He also performs occasionally with Jane LeCroy’s avant-jazz group TRANSMITTING, featuring beatboxer Kid Lucky and multi-instrumentalist Tom Abbs. His music is influenced by genres as diverse as (in no particular order) folk, alternative rock, blues, heavy metal, shoegaze, world music, noise, atonal music, hip-hop, ambient, and jazz.

Jesse began making music at the age of 8, when he wrote hundreds of Beatles-inspired love songs, and recorded them to cassette with no musical accompaniment. At 9, he began to teach himself the guitar, and he recorded a series of cassettes with various friends accompanying him as percussionists and backup singers. Many of these were recorded as “The Band Of The Land,” which was a duo comprised of Jesse and his friend Beth Heuer.

Soon, Jesse began to learn the drums, piano, and bass guitar. He continued to record with The Band Of The Land until he was 11, and developed an interest in filmmaking. This interest caused him to direct over 100 short films from 2005-2008, many of which featured original music.

In 2009, Jesse began recording guitar instrumentals on his home computer, many of which were set to original poetry/spoken word. In 2010, he began taking voice lessons, and expanding his musical vocabulary. He also learned to incorporate instruments such as mandolin, ukulele, Bolivian charango, hand drum, singing saw, Egyptian oud, and Chinese pipa in his music.
