Biography

Jesse Brooks is a alt-rock singer-songwriter that combines subtle influences from alt-country, indie, folk, and pop music. Born on January 26, 1987 in Covington, LA (across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans). Jesse is also a freelance journalist and occasional on-air personality.

Jesse began on the local Louisiana scene just about as soon as he started writing songs by playing in any bar, club, or coffeehouse that would allow an underage teen enter. (sometimes illegally) Jesse would later release his first low budget EP entitled, “A Song to You”, and developed an underground local following. While still attending Albany High School in Albany, LA, Jesse would get his first real exposure as a working musician when he formed the emo/pop-punk outfit, Spanky’s Day Out with other classmates. Jesse also contributed as a writer and guitarist to the indie-pop band, Greater Than Pi, and would also mark the first time he was a musician signed to a professional label. Jesse later left to become the frontman and songwriter of an indie rock band called The Final Rise. The band quickly grew a cult following, but was at times criticized for sounding too much like bands similar to Brand New (a band Jesse cited as a major influence at the time).

After interest in The Final Rise began to fade, the band called it quits. In the time away from the music scene, Jesse began writing again and would eventually independently release his first full length to date, “Within”. “Within” was the result of more mature songwriting and less hard rocking. Jesse’s new direction was reflective of music influences he always had that didn’t always get to shine through in other projects. With elements of folk songwriting, bluesly vocals and guitar riffs, country balladeering, and layered but simplistic arrangements Jesse had finally embraced the sounds and surroundings once common in his native of Louisiana.

Jesse is primarily an acoustic musician now, but jumps at the chance to plug up with his backing band, The Northshore All-Stars. The lineup is typically a hodgepodge of local musicians, but is now set with the foundation of JT Thomas (Greater Than Pi) on drums and Brad Buccola on bass (The Final Rise).
